Nix Elected as AIAA Associate Fellow
Andrew Nix, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at West Virginia University, has been named an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. AIAA is the world’s largest aerospace technical society, with nearly 30,000 individual members from 85 countries. Less than 3,000 members have achieved AIAA Associate Fellow status.
April 2022 Statler Circuit: Department Digest and Awards
Andrew Nix, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, will be a keynote speaker at the 6th edition of the Summer School on Advanced Research in Turbomachinery ( ART2022), organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Florence. Nix will discuss gas turbine components heat transfer and cooling. The summer school, held from June 27 to July 1, is aimed at providing engineering professionals and young researchers with an overview on both the most relevant issues in turbomachinery research and the current trends in turbomachinery design and analysis.
Nix Named ASME Fellow
Andrew Nix, associate professor in the
Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at
West Virginia University, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers. ASME is a global engineering society comprised of more than
130,000 members in more than 151 countries. Less than 4,000 members have achieved
ASME Fellow status.

Following four years of implementing energy efficient technologies and placing amongst top performing universities each year as part of the EcoCAR Mobility Challenge, the West Virginia University EcoCAR team has been selected to participate in a new four-year competition that will test students’ ability to engineer a next generation battery electric vehicle.

WVU Finishes Second in DOE-GM Sponsored EcoCAR 3 Competition
At the end of year two of the EcoCAR 3 competition, the team from
West Virginia University won the “Team to Watch” award, which is presented
to the school that shows strong improvement from year one as well as the potential
to grow in future years of the competition.
WVU Nabs Fourth Place Finish in Year Three of EcoCAR 3 Competition
With one year left to go in the four-year EcoCAR 3 competition, the team from West Virginia University finds itself in some pretty good company. After a two-week stint that featured stops in Michigan and Washington, D.C., the team from WVU placed fourth overall, joining Ohio State University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Georgia Tech at the top.

on the west coast, where they showcased their newly integrated hybrid Camaro to
industry professionals.

After more than a year of work spent on computer-aided designs for a hybrid conversion of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, the West Virginia University EcoCAR 3 team is finally able to share its plans for this innovative hybrid vehicle. Up to this point, the team’s hybrid architecture plans were not available to the public; however, with the arrival of the Chevrolet Camaro coming in December, teams may now share their elaborate plans.
